Tis The Season To Be Jolly

Tis the Season

Christmas season is here again. The Christmas street lights have been turned on.

The boys and I missed the official street lighting for our area because we had swimming lessons. Most councils and Boroughs in the Uk light their streets on the same day, it was done on Friday the 15th. Some people also put out their house decorations on that day. Suffice to say, everywhere is ‘Lit’ right now 🎄.

The Christmas fayres and markets have started popping up, Christmas songs now playing in stores and on the radio. I drove past Hyde Park a few days ago and could see them putting up all the rides for ‘winter wonderland’. Pantomimes, Carols, Christmas productions… There’s a lot going on and so much to do.

I’ll put down a few of my favourite Christmas events, please feel free to share yours with us especially if you have some really cool events in your local area…

Christmas Wonderland @ Hyde Park:

This event opens every day (except on Christmas day) from Nov 22nd till 6th January 2019. There’s the Santa’s Grotto, rides, attractions and this year, they’re adding a few new attractions like the Magical Ice Kingdom’s, ‘Secret Forest’, Teletubbies Christmas show, Peter Pan on ice etc. I always enjoy visiting the wonderland with my family, please note that “the more, the merrier’. So plan to go with friends and family.

Legoland @ Christmas

Legoland is fun for younger kids, and personally, I l😍ve visiting Legoland at Christmas. The Christmas lights, snow-dusted pine trees, brilliant lego magic. I prefer the Santa experience at Legoland to any we have visited. The elves walk you on a long pine path to Santa’s Cabin, everything is almost believable! Also, the queues are not too long this period or could be we were just lucky on the day we visited 🤔.

Ruxley Manor Grotto

If you live around Sidcup, or even if not, a visit to the Ruxley Manor Grotto is worth a train or long car journey. You are welcomed by Elves and Mother Christmas who guide you through the enchanting Christmas experience. From snowball games, elf’s hat decoration, reindeer to meeting Father Christmas… It’s all magical and enchanting. But note that it’s always fully booked. Booking opens sometime in September or October yes, it’s that popular!

Christmas Pantomimes

Pantomime is a type of musical comedy stage production for family entertainment. It’s very popular during Christmas and New Year season. It includes music, dancing, comedy, and gags. Children find them interesting because they encourage audience participation. There are good ones all over the place, check your nearest theatre and am sure they’ll have a good one. The popular ones include Cinderella, Snow white, Alladin, etc.

You can also catch Santa at your local shopping centre as most shopping centres now have their own Christmas festivities and Santas Grotto. Also look out for your local Christmas Markets and Fayres. You actually get some amazing buys and of course good street food.

My birthday falls within the season, and am already planning to see ‘Motown The Musical’ with a few friends. The ever-popular ‘Lion King’, ‘Stick Man’ … So many wonderful shows to catch at the theatre.

There’s so much to do and see, so count your blessings of this year and put your cheerful spirit on 😋 because ‘Tis The Season To Be Jolly’ 💃💃💃

How’re you cheering 🤩

Calendar/planner 2019

Calendar 2019

I have really exciting news!

I must start by thanking you wonderful folks that have been reading this blog.

If you’ll recall, I mentioned that I started the blog because of a book project I’ve been working on. Another baby has come from this project, and it is the ‘Mum, my Super Hero’ 2019 calendar/planner.

I’m still going to write about my favourite purchases this year. However, my best purchase of the year without a doubt is my 2018 calendar/planner. I actually bought it 2nd quarter of this year. I’d noticed I was struggling with appointments and the boys missed a couple of birthday parties.

This made me miserable. I felt that as a stay home mum, there was no excuse to fail at such things!

I decided to get the calendar/planner and positioned it by my kitchen sink – where I spend a lot of time so that I always have to look through it.

Every month, I fill in the events we have, Dr’s appointments, birthday parties, family birthdays, school events etc. Even my husband now relies on the calendar 🤩!

Introducing ‘Mum, my superhero’ calendar.

The success of our family calendar/planner inspired me to work on mine, using my book ‘Mum, my superhero’ as the theme.

The calendars will be available for purchase here on the blog soon and my book will be out early next year.

Am super excited, emotional and so thankful. I hope you buy into the calendar/planner idea, most especially, the ‘Mum, my Super Hero’ calendar.

You’ll meet the mums from my book and maybe you can tell which character best describes you🤩. Most of us are all of them and more.

I worked with an amazing illustrator, the lovely Bennie Buatsie. I’ll tell you more about her later.

Thanks, everyone, for this audience thank you…..

We are all Superheros 😘.

Time to cool down.

You are my kind time to cool down

It’s been so serious on the blog this past week! So I decided to upload one of my favourite songs for your listening pleasure.

‘You are my kind’ is a classic rock from Santana’s 2002 Shaman album. It features Seal, who delivers a deep sensuous performance as usual.

I l😍ve, love this song and really hope you enjoy it – for those not familiar with it.

So snuggle all up😉 and be swept away.

P.S: Thank you DJ Blink-Blink, our in-house DJ (yes we have one🤭) for delivering as usual …

Talent, Passion and Intetest.

talent, passion, interest

And now abideth talent, passion, and interest, and the greatest of them is… 😃.

Am starting a column celebrating women who have followed their passion or talent and have made successful businesses out of it. It got me thinking of these 3 main career drivers. They are; talent, passion, and interest.

Talent is a natural ability at something without being taught. It’s simply skill, flair, a high degree of aptitude. It’s something you’re born with that comes naturally to you without trying too hard as someone who has no talent for it. Cool right 😊!

Passion, ‘in this context’ means an intense desire or enthusiasm, eagerness, zeal or gusto for something. It could be for a particular sport, arts, music or anything.

Interest is the feeling of wanting to know or learn about something or even someone. It is to be curious about something.

The most important

Which of them is the most important? Which is more likely to guarantee success for an individual?

Personally, I think none is more important than the other as it is what an individual makes out of each one that determines success.

Talent👨‍🎨

Everyone has a talent. Interestingly, some find it early in life, build on it and become successful or famous for it, some find it early but do nothing with it, some find it late and become successful at it while some go to their grave without finding it! This makes it rather fascinating in the sense that how can something that is meant to be natural be so elusive 🤔!

Passion🏋️‍♂️

Passion is easier to ascertain because of the personal pleasure derived from it. Interestingly, I think there’s a higher likelihood to prosper more at something one is passionate about than someone with a talent for it 🤨. The reason is that passion usually walks with dedication and fervour.  An example is sports. A passionate person is more likely to succeed at sports than a natural because their passion will drive them through the necessary training, abstinence etc. A talented person could lose interest because of the strict rules and guidelines and make nothing of their talent or not just put in any extra effort.

A little caution here, because passion can be extremely consuming.  It can be so intense and consuming that it becomes an obsession resulting in neglect of other areas of life like family and friends or even other potentially lucrative businesses. Passion can be destructive if not balanced properly. It can lead to unfulfillment and frustration. 🙁

Interests👨‍🚀👩‍⚕️👩‍🌾

Most people are earning or making a living from their Interests. It requires more dedication than the other two because it neither comes naturally nor is it something we really enjoy. It is more dynamic though, as you can actually earn from several interests.

Interest is usually in someone else’s passion or talent that you decide to invest or you notice a gap in the market for a product or service and decide to fill that gap or something you go for because you don’t know your talent or passion but seems quite interesting like me studying law 😊. Interest can pass with time but if approached sensibly, the benefits can be for a lifetime.

Best solution

Lucky is the one who has mastered them all 🤩. An example is a pop star whose obvious talent is singing and is making good money from it, not talented at acting but is so passionate about it that everything is put into training to be one and thus becomes successful at that too. And then develops an interest in other things like fashion, real estate etc and is making good money from a clothing line and property investment. 🤑

Conclusion

All three ‘drivers’ are important and something can be made from any of them as long as there is dedication. They all require hard work and training which is basically skill development.

Whatever it is you find yourself doing, even if you’re a natural at it, you still need to train. Hone your skills, develop yourself. Stay on top of the game….

Gosh, I’m beginning to confuse myself 😵🤯. All l’m trying to do is introduce a column 😅. Hope I made a little sense.

Please stay tuned as we meet some amazing ladies doing what they love…

tips for finding talent

  1. Try new things, make new relationships. Don’t be a wallflower 😉
  2. Take notes, write down your activities, thoughts, and ideas.
  3. Don’t look down on any hobby or interests.🤗
  4. Get rid of all unnecessary distractions that take too much of your time. (I still miss candy crush and farm heroes 😪)
  5. Stay around positive people that encourage and motivate. Sometimes it’s other people that notice an individual’s talent.😏

How’re you earning …😉

Health talk with Adeola

health talk with Adeola

Dr. Adeola has been busy as questions have been pouring in…

How often should ladies have their health checked, and which checks should be done? Amy

Dear Amy,

At any age, we should all be health aware and report any concerns or anything we notice that is different.  Amy

However, from my experience, general female health awareness (including self-breast examination ) starts from the late 20’s to 30’s. Unless otherwise indicated.

Cervical smear starts around age 25 and the recall is every 3years till age 50 when it becomes every 5 years. Routine mammograms usually start from age 50-70, but if during a self-breast examination at any age you find a breast lump then mammograms may form part of the investigations.

It is recommended that everyone has a general health check from age 40 and the frequency afterward will depend on the health status of the individual after the initial health check. Whilst the general Heath information is applicable in most countries, my advice may be slightly biased towards the Uk healthcare system.

Hi Adeola, do you recommend taking vitamins for general well-being and digestive issues? If so, could you list a few, please?  Simi

Dear Simi,

Vitamins are essential for your overall health. Most people can get all the required daily intake of multivitamins in their usual healthy diet.

Deciding to take supplementary multivitamins can give a boost to everyday body functioning and improve one’s general wellbeing which includes digestion. Any over the counter multivitamin supplement that contains Vitamins A, B complex, C, D, E, K will suffice.

However specific digestive issues will need specific considerations before advice on specific multivitamins can be offered, if applicable.
