Little Drops of Water

Little drops of water, little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean and the beauteous land.…”

A quiet moment of reflection brought back this hymn we sang so often in primary school.

It’s funny how certain songs stay tucked away in our hearts, only to resurface years later with the same warmth, the same innocence, the same quiet reassurance.

This post is a small tribute to that memory.
If it resonates with you, I’d love for you to share it and leave a comment, perhaps about a song that’s stayed with you over the years. ❤️

The Festive Detour

I was feeling a little discouraged about my weight loss journey recently.

You know those moments when progress feels slow? When you’re doing everything right — showing up, staying disciplined, making better choices — and yet the results don’t feel dramatic enough?

I was doing very well. 🤔

Well… up until Christmas.

Somewhere between “just a small slice” and “it’s the holidays, enjoy yourself,” I allowed the festivities to linger a little too long. A little cake here. A little cookie there. A festive drink to toast the season. And suddenly, January arrived with receipts 🫣.

Now I’m staring at my end-of-season report, and let’s just say — it’s not my favourite one.

But here’s the thing about detours: they are not destinations.

The Top That Told the Truth

Whilst combing through my wardrobe for what to wear for our next podcast shoot, I reached for a top I’ve owned for years. It used to be that top – the one that didn’t fit, the one I longed to wear comfortably, the one that represented “one day.”

When it finally fit sometime in 2024, it felt like victory. A quiet, personal triumph. Since then, it has become my measuring stick — my unspoken progress report.

So as I slipped it on this time, I braced myself.

I pulled it down gently. Adjusted it at the waist, looked in the mirror.

And…

It still fit! Not “hold your breath” fit. Not “don’t move too much” fit. But comfortable. Easy. Settled. 🥳

And in that small moment, something inside me exhaled. Yes, I may have gained a few extra pounds, but I am nowhere near the weight I once struggled with and gladly left behind. That top told the truth.

And the truth was this: You have come far.

It reminded me of that quiet but powerful scripture:

“Do not despise the day of small beginnings.”

Zechariah 4:10

Progress is not always loud. Sometimes it hangs quietly in your wardrobe, waiting to remind you who you are becoming.

The Problem with Always Chasing

We are constantly setting goals and chasing aspirations.

We achieve one milestone, celebrate briefly — if at all — and almost immediately shift our gaze to the next target.

Five kilograms down?
Yes, but I need ten more.

Business growing?
Yes, but not enough.

Prayers answered?
Yes, but what about the next request?

It becomes a cycle of pursuit with very little pause for appreciation.

When was the last time you truly stopped to reflect on how far you’ve come?

We live in a fast-paced world where small wins feel insignificant. We downplay our achievements because we’re aiming for something bigger. Or worse — we compare our steady progress to someone else’s highlight reel. And suddenly what we’ve built feels small. But steady is not small.

Steady is sacred.

The Small Things Matter

Those early mornings when you didn’t feel like getting up — but you did.

Those sleepless nights when you prayed instead of panicked. The vigils, the fasting, the discipline, the budgeting, the studying. The quiet consistency when nobody was clapping.

It all counts.

Every healthy meal, every hard conversation, every boundary set. Every time you chose growth over comfort.

Little drops.
Little grains.

You may not be where you ultimately want to be — but you are not where you used to be either, and that matters.

why small wins matter

Pause Before You Push

Sometimes you need to pause.

Smell the roses, take a deep breath. pat yourself on the back, realign, recalibrate. Whisper a prayer of gratitude. Whatever you’re able to do in this moment, do that. But give yourself permission to pause.

Reflection clears the mind.
Gratitude fuels momentum.

Scripture reminds us:

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…”

Philippians 1:6

If God is not finished with you, why are you so quick to dismiss the work He has already done? Growth is not always dramatic. Sometimes it is subtle. Sustainable. Steady.

And steady builds strength.

Count Them Properly

I remember a hymn from childhood:

“Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”

There is deep wisdom in that because when you actually count them — not rush past them — you realise something powerful:

You survived what once almost broke you, you achieved what once felt impossible, you outgrew what once confined you.

That is not small, that is grace.

A Gentle Word Before We Go

Now come, sit here for a moment. Let me tell you something gently, but firmly.

Stop being so hard on yourself.

Yes, strive. Yes, improve. Yes, pursue excellence.

But do not dishonour your journey by pretending it hasn’t been significant. That top fitting? That’s not fabric, that’s faithfulness. Those small habits? That’s discipline taking root. Those tiny improvements? That’s transformation in motion.

Little drops.
Little grains.

They build oceans. And so does your consistency.

So adjust your crown. Take your gratitude with you. And continue the journey — lighter, clearer, wiser. You’ve come too far to ignore your own progress now 🤍✨

Now take on the month of March with this reassurance, you’re doing well. Keep moving, you’ll be fine.

Always rooting for you

  1. I was literally holding my breath heaved and a sign of relief at ” it still fits” until the horror of the next word “NOT”.

  2. Thank you Abimbola……this blessed me tremendously
Thank God for our lil wins indeed
    This weight sha…..We keep pushing

  3. Little drops….very apt! There’s a thin line between monitoring your set goals and ingratitude. The temptation is always there to be ungrateful when you miss a timed goal, but then appreciating the little wins goes a long way…it drives you to keep at it. Thanks
