I thought I’d conclude the AMVCA 12 with some of the standout designs from the AMVCAs and, like I promised, no “turanchi” this time 😂.
Let me start by highlighting some of the designers who really stood out.
Surprisingly, I’m starting with the men. Gosh, Nigerian men can dress! I was genuinely wowed — one stunning look after another. Let’s get into it.
We’ll stay away from the copyright controversy surrounding some of the designers and focus strictly on the fashion. However, Nigerian designers, please always credit your inspiration when you know the idea wasn’t originally yours. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being inspired by someone else.
Alright then, let’s get into the looks, guys.
Deji and Kola

I think Deji and Koka had a successful night — a very successful night, I must add.
Samuel’s look is my favourite from the group and honestly one of my favourites of the night. I think Samuel has officially taken over from Akin as my best-dressed male. Did you people see him at the Cultural Night? Insane!
His look manages to be playful yet serious at the same time — perfect for a guest at an awards show.
Tobi’s look is so Yoruba Monarch, a traditional look with a modern twist, I love it 😍 .
10/10 across the board… ehm, maybe not for Deyemi 😅, I’m not really feeling this Shaolin-inspired look sha. Let’s give him an 8.
A Modern Africa – AMA Lagos

Ohlala… Kolapo, nice to meet you 🤝🏾. You look absolutely dashing – the broach, the folded lapel ❤️ . Lateef is really giving us fashion this season, and we are fully here for it! 10/10 across the board once again.
Well done, AMA Lagos 👏🏽.
Jason Porshe

IK looks absolutely dashing in this pristine white ensemble. Clean, sharp, and effortlessly elegant. Easy 10/10. I like Sunny Michael’s look too, but I’m not sold on the shoes. A sleeker pair of footwear would have elevated the entire outfit for me. Still a solid 7/10.
Rogue

Rogue came out blazing! It’s another 10/10 across the board.
I must admit though, I can’t exactly imagine my husband or even my boys wearing an embellished or sequined suit 😅 But on celebrities? I can tolerate it 🤭.
Splendour

Ah ah, there’s trouble o 😂. All the men are scoring 10/10! What! I especially love looks 2 and 3. Very clean, stylish, and well put together. Nice!

These gentlemen all get a 9. I told you the men did not come to play 😀. Clean tailoring, strong styling choices, and confident delivery all around. They definitely held their own on the red carpet.
Looking again though, I think Chimezie and VJ Adams both deserve a 10. Those two looks stand out just a little extra — sharp, memorable, and exceptionally well styled.❤️
Over to the Ladies: Beauty, Drama & Pure Star Power
Lady Beelionaire

The ladies clearly want us to be green with envy 😅, but were they successful? Well… they both look good, and the styling is very well done. Elegant, coordinated, and eye-catching. I’ll give them both a solid 8/10.
Tiannah Styling

Sighs… I’ll stan Tiannah any day 🙌🏽. Her talent is genuinely out of this world. And I’ll say it again — she should be creating jaw-dropping costumes and fashion pieces in Hollywood, Bollywood… honestly, any “wood” at this point. The woman is insanely talented.
That said, some of these outfits can feel a bit overwhelming. While I absolutely appreciate the creativity, craftsmanship, and sheer artistry behind them, they’re still a no for me personally — especially the bread-inspired outfit 😭.
The balloon look is a lot more interesting to me, but I think it would have worked even better on a taller, slimmer silhouette.
Honestly, I don’t even want to rate these looks. There’s no real point scoring wearable art like this.
Lanre Dasilva-Ajayi

Look 1 – 7/10
This is such a lovely evening gown, and she carries it beautifully. However, the lower part doesn’t fully align for me — something about the finishing feels slightly off, even though the overall look is elegant.
Look 2 – 8/10
Toyosi looks radiant. The styling was well put together, and everything works seamlessly together. Clean, polished, and effortlessly flattering.
Sevion Dejana

Two looks from Nini, and both are fabulous.
The styling on the first look really took it up a notch — elevated, polished, and well thought out.
But I love the second look even more. Clean, striking, and effortlessly beautiful.
Look 1 — 9/10
Look 2 — 10/10
Weizdhurm Franklyn

Wow — it’s Weizdhurm, so of course we’re meant to be wowed 😀. My favourite here is the second look; Erica’s dress is absolutely gorgeous, while Chioma’s blue phoenix dress comes in at a very close second.
Shine’s styling is really good, even though I’m not completely wowed by the dress itself. And you already know how I feel about Chioma’s wood dress from my last post 😉.
All in all, Weizdhurm did an amazing job.
Look 1 — 8/10
Look 2 — 10/10
Look 3 — 10/10
Look 4 — 8/10
Prudential Atelier

I’m not exactly jumping out of my seat for this set overall.
That said, Liquorose’s dress is beautiful — very ethereal and graceful. I really like it. I’m not a fan of Toyin’s ball gown though; it just doesn’t do it for me.
Chinonso’s look is decent and well put together. Nelly’s look is very creative — it has this almost alien-like feel to it, which makes it stand out.
Look 1 – 9/10
Look 2 – 5/10
Look 3 – 7/10
Look 4 – 8/10
Veekee James

What can I say… it’s Veekee James 😍, 10/10 across the board.
Amy Aghomi

You people should not say I don’t have a creative mind o 😅 but honestly, some of these arty outfits can be quite overwhelming for me. I love wearable fashion — be creative, yes, but let it still be wearable. That said, the bodice on this aquarium dress is breathtaking though. Absolutely stunning 😍.
I already rated Chioma’s dress in a previous post — still stunning.
Look 1 — 7.5/10
Look 2 — 10/10
Tubo

I already spoke about Nomzamo’s dress in a previous post, so you already know my thoughts there 😉.
Uche Montana looks absolutely breathtaking in this red dress — this is such a striking look on her. Elegant, confident, and beautifully executed.
Look 1 – 8/10
Look 2 – 10/10
Shimmer Season: White, Silver & Gold Edition

Look 1 — 8.5/10. I don’t think she wore the right footwear; strappy sandals would have elevated this look more.
Look 2 — 8.5/10. Dabota looks ravishing in this dress and I really like Erica Moore’s styling, but it feels a bit too busy for me.
Look 3 — 9/10. Dare I say this is the best I’ve seen Uche? It actually looks better without the tail.
Look 4 — 10/10. I love this look, clean, sophisticated, and very much my kind of style, so of course I’ll be a bit partial 😉.
Look 5 — 10/10. She looks like she belongs in a garden — delicate, feminine, and gorgeous.
Look 6 — 10/10. What a work of art. This is exactly what wearable art should be — artistic, but still very wearable. I love it.
Look 7 — 8.5/10
Kiekie looks stunning in gold. This particular shade can be quite tricky to pull off, but she wears it beautifully. The look feels rich, regal, and very well executed.
Look 8 — 9/10
Omowunmi looks like a miniature Victorian Decorative piece come to life. She’s one of my favourites on the red carpet because she truly understands red carpet etiquette, and this look is further confirmation of that. A very nice guest appearance..
Ladies In Shades of Royalty and Earth

There’s one thing all the dresses in this session have in common — pictures really don’t do them justice. The beadwork on these pieces is ridiculous, and honestly, only a video clip can capture the full effect.
Look 1 — 7/10. Blessing is the weakest link here for me. I’m not a fan of the bodice at all, and the fabric gives a bit of an aso-ebi feel. We needed couture here — something more avant-garde. She’s definitely looked better.
Look 2 — 8.5/10. Wunmi Toriola’s fashion game has been on a steady incline. She looks really nice, and the styling is great.
Look 3 — 8.5/10. More of this please, Dorathy. You’ve never looked better.
Look 4 — 8/10. I love Imisi’s outfit, even though I think it ages her slightly. She still carries it well. The hair styling also lets it down a bit — a chignon at the nape of the neck would have sealed this look perfectly.
Look 5 — 8/10. Pictures don’t do Enado’s dress justice at all — it’s absolutely stunning in motion.
Look 6 — 9/10. Brown can be such a tricky, washed-out colour for red carpet, but you need to see this dress in video. Bisola looks so classy — I love it.
The Butterfly Effect

Like I said earlier, we’ll stay away from the copyright controversy trailing these butterfly outfits and focus strictly on the looks. Both designers absolutely nailed their versions.
Which one is your favourite though? I love the delicacy of Leslie’s wings, but I also appreciate the somewhat modest elegance of Laura’s look. I’m honestly torn 🤔.
9/10 for both ladies.
The Reds Steal the Night

These are two strong looks! I genuinely can’t fault anything here — both ladies look absolutely stunning. Elegant, polished, and red carpet ready from head to toe. 9/10 for both looks.
