AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

✨ AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence ✨

The 12th edition of the AMVCA Awards has come and gone, but not without leaving us with memories we will happily feast on until the next edition in 2027. Honestly, what a week it was!

Themed “Honouring Craft, Celebrating Culture,” the entire week-long celebration truly lived up to its promise. Every event felt intentional, glamorous, and proudly African. From the stunning fashion moments to the breathtaking artistry on display, it was a beautiful reminder that Nigerians will never miss an opportunity to show the world that creativity lives here in abundance.

🌍 The Cultural Night — My Personal Favourite

Now let me confess something… the Cultural Night was still my absolute favourite. Ah ah! The looks on that carpet? My goodness. I have still not recovered.

It was pure cultural splendour from start to finish — a proud celebration of Nigerian heritage brought to life by our incredibly talented designers, makeup artists, photographers, stylists, and of course, the celebrities and guests who wore every outfit like royalty.

The fabrics, the beads, the gele, the embroidery, the drama, the elegance… everything came together so beautifully that you almost forgot you were watching a red carpet and not a living museum of African excellence. Nigerians really said, “Culture but make it luxury.”

✨ The Grand Finale — Awards Night

And then came the grand finale — the Awards Night itself. Designers were given an open canvas with the theme “Fashion is Art,” and did they exceed expectations or what?

From one jaw-dropping look to another, we were completely immersed in the brilliance of African and Nigerian fashion at its very best. Every outfit told a story. Every detail screamed creativity. The red carpet transformed into a stunning gallery of art, elegance, culture, and bold self-expression.

Some looks were soft and regal, some dramatic and daring, and some simply left us staring at our screens saying, “No, because HOW is this person so fine?” 😭😂

At this point, I think I need to stop talking so we can actually get into the looks because honestly, the fashion spoke louder than any introduction ever could.

And honestly, what better place to start than with the co-host of the evening herself, Nomzamo Mbatha.

Nomzamo Mbatha

Styled by Dahmola, Nomzamo did not come to play at all. Sis gave us not one, not two, but FIVE unforgettable looks — each serving its own personality, drama, and elegance.

One moment she was giving regal African queen, the next moment high-fashion editorial, and then suddenly soft glamour with just the right amount of sparkle.

Every look was carefully styled, beautifully executed, and carried with so much confidence that you could tell she knew she looked good. And rightfully so!

Now over to you people of God… which of Nomzamo’s looks was your favourite? 👀✨

Nomzamo Mbatha did not come to Nigeria to play with anybody ✨

Let us start with Look 1 because WHAT even was that masterpiece? The outfit was reportedly made with over 30,000 eyelashes mixed with black crystals and beads. Thirty. Thousand. Eyelashes. Please, Nigerian designers will not allow us rest 😭😂.

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

The craftsmanship? Insane. The detailing? Exquisite. Very Veekee James-coded if you ask me — dramatic, luxurious, and impossible to ignore.

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

Now moving on to the futuristic House of Dova piece… ah! I am honestly struggling to pick a favourite here because this look completely carried me into another dimension. It’s giving “tech babe from the year 2060 attending fashion week on Mars” 🚀✨

I genuinely do not know how they created those chip-like fragments on the dress, but this is creativity and wearable art at its absolute finest. Fashion is art? Yes. THIS is exactly what they meant.

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

Then we have the Emagine Bukola dress… and my goodness, this one looked like something straight out of a science fiction movie. You know those scenes where an alien is slowly taking over somebody’s body but somehow the person still looks stunning? 😭😂

It was spooky. It was sexy. It was strange. It was amazing. Honestly, how can spooky be sexy at the same time? Nigerians, please explain yourselves 😭✨

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

And then the House of Marvee gown… whew. What a spectacle. Now, me personally, I am not usually a fan of anything remotely serpentine because snakes and I are not friends spiritually 😭😂 BUT I must admit — this look was breathtaking.

The play on colours, the iridescent finish, the movement, the brilliance… pure artistry. Every angle looked expensive. Every detail looked intentional. It was giving “dangerous but make it couture.”

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

Finally, the Tubo dress. Now this one was probably my least favourite, BUT let me quickly clarify before Tubo fans drag me 😭 — it was still incredibly creative. In fact, you really need to see the back to fully appreciate the construction and artistry behind it.

For me personally, though, it leaned slightly into aso-ebi territory, and I did not necessarily want that vibe from such a high-fashion event. But creative? Absolutely. Beautifully made? Without question.

Honestly, every single look ate. Nobody came to this AMVCA carpet to breathe ordinary air 😭✨

My ratings?
✨ Look 1 — 10/10
✨ Look 2 — 10/10
✨ Look 3 — 9/10
✨ Look 4 — 9.5/10
✨ Look 5 — 8/10

👑 The Battle of the AMVCA Queens — Fashion Throne Wars 😭✨

Now lets move to the AMVCA Queens, Nana Akudo, Osas Ighodaro and Chioma Ikoku. Now these three seem to have a silent competition going on , who’s the queen of the AMVCA?

Well lets get to their looks.

These ladies dropped multiple looks 🤯. We saw 3 looks from Nana and Chioma and 2 from Osas. Personally, I don’t understand the need for multiple looks, i really don’t, but when fashion is involved, we can all be ‘Oliver Twists’ we want more!

Nana Akua Addo

✨ Look 1 — The Cathedral Dress

The Cathedral Dress was her first look and honestly, it embodies everything wearable art is supposed to represent. The piece was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, and once you hear that, you cannot unsee it.

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

The structure, the detailing, the dramatic silhouette… it genuinely looked like architecture turned into fashion. And if that was not enough, the dress even lit up on the red carpet 😭✨ Please, how do you people even think of these things?

Now, is it wearable? Hmm. Personally… not really 😭😂 I cannot imagine sitting comfortably at dinner in that masterpiece. BUT creativity-wise? Absolutely insane. This is the kind of look that belongs in a museum, not just on a carpet.

✨ Rating: 9.5/10
(The 0.5 deduction is simply because I still need fashion to allow breathing and movement 😭😂)

🪸 Look 2 — My Personal Favourite

This second look? Ah. Finished. Done. Game over.

This one is my personal favourite out of the three. Even though I am still not fully convinced about the fish bag situation 😭😂, I cannot deny that the creativity here is absolutely mind-blowing.

The entire outfit looked like exotic coral reefs brought to life — rich textures, unusual shapes, movement, colour… everything just flowed together so beautifully. It felt futuristic, underwater, alien, and luxurious all at once.

Honestly, this is the type of fashion that makes you pause and stare because there is something new to discover every few seconds. Pure art. Pure imagination.

✨ Rating: 10/10

🪨 Look 3 — “Living Stone”

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

Then we have the third look titled Living Stone — which, I cannot lie, slightly reminded me of “The Thing” from Fantastic Four 😭😂✨

Now according to Abbas, the inspiration came from his bed 💁🏽‍♀️😭😂 and honestly, at this point I have stopped questioning creatives because clearly their brains function in dimensions the rest of us have not unlocked yet.

All I know is that the result was stunningly creative. The textures, the structure, the sculptural feel of the dress… it looked alive in the most artistic way possible. Almost like fashion and contemporary art had a baby.

And that is exactly what made these looks so memorable — they were not just dresses, they were experiences.

✨ Rating: 10/10

Chioma Ikoku

Imagine not physically attending the AMVCA Awards show, yet somehow still being fully present and topping several best-dressed lists 😭✨

“How is that even possible?” you may ask.

Well… welcome to Nigeria, where absolutely anything is possible 😭😂

Chioma Ikoku was unfortunately unable to attend the Awards Night due to ill health, BUT her favourite designers had already prepared some of the most eye-popping looks for her, and sis made sure those outfits still had their moment through a stunning photoshoot.

And honestly? Mission accomplished because these looks caused serious damage online 😭✨

🔥 Look 1 — “Sun Goddess”

This first look? Pure liquid magma magic.

Please what kind of golden wizardry was this??? 😭✨ The designers called it Sun Goddess and honestly, I completely agree. She looked like she descended directly from the sun to come and blind us with luxury.

The molten gold effect, the dramatic textures, the glow, the photography… EVERYTHING worked together perfectly. And can we quickly appreciate the photoshoot itself because the photography elevated this look into another universe entirely.

This was not fashion anymore. This was mythology 😭✨

✨ Rating: 10/10

🦋 Look 2 — “Blue Phoenix”

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

Now let us discuss this Weizdhurm masterpiece because wow wow WOW.

In my opinion, Weizdhurm might actually be Chioma’s best designer pairing because every single time they collaborate, magic happens. This second look, Blue Phoenix, was absolutely breathtaking.

And honestly, pictures alone do not even do it justice — you NEED to see the video version to fully appreciate the movement, structure, and drama of the outfit. The way it moved was almost hypnotic.

Everything about it screamed luxury fantasy. Regal. Ethereal. Powerful. It genuinely looked like a phoenix rising elegantly from fashionable ashes 😭✨

Absolutely stunning. No notes.

✨ Rating: 10/10

✨ Look 3

AMVCA 12 — Fashion, Culture & Pure Nigerian Excellence

Now for the third look… hmm 😭😂

This one was personally my least favourite of the three. And before anybody drags me, let me say clearly — it was still incredibly creative and beautifully executed.

In fact, one of the most impressive details of the outfit was the corset, which was crafted from carved wood. Yes, WOOD 😭✨ And the inspiration behind the gown is deeply rooted in traditional Nigerian woodwork and craftsmanship, which honestly makes me appreciate the artistry behind it even more.

You can tell there was serious thought, culture, and technique poured into this design. It was sculptural, dramatic, and unapologetically artistic.

However, I think the exaggerated hips created a slightly awkward silhouette, and overall, the dress just did not connect with me the same way the first two did. Sometimes fashion is less about whether something is beautiful and more about whether it feels balanced, and this one just missed the mark a little for me personally.

But creative? Absolutely. Forgettable? Never. Nigerians will always give you art before anything else 😭

✨ Rating: 8/10

Osas Ighodaro

Osas Ighodaro is honestly one of those people who never misses on a red carpet. But on the AMVCA carpet? Ah… it becomes something beyond fashion entirely 😭✨

And once again, she and the extraordinary Veekee James reminded us why they are one of the most iconic fashion pairings in the industry right now.

✨ Look 1

This first look was an absolute vision to behold.

The spherical transparent avant-garde structure immediately made it feel otherworldly — like some glamorous fashion empress from Planet Saturn descended onto the AMVCA carpet 😭✨

Everything about it felt futuristic, artistic, and carefully constructed. The transparency, the shape, the illusion, the drama… it was giving haute couture with a sprinkle of intergalactic luxury.

This is the kind of look that reminds you fashion does not always have to be practical to be breathtaking. Sometimes it simply needs to make you stop and stare. And stare we did 😭😂

✨ Rating: 10/10

✨ Look 2

Now THIS second look? Whew 😭✨

An ode to the African metal sponge — and the fact that it was reportedly made with over 400 metal sponges still has my brain loading slowly because WHAT??? 😭😂

The creativity behind this concept alone deserves applause, but what makes it even more impressive is how tasteful the execution was. Because this could have very easily looked chaotic, but instead it came out elegant, feminine, wearable, and absolutely breathtaking.

The texture, the shine, the movement, the silhouette… everything worked beautifully together. It was innovative without losing glamour, artistic without losing softness.

Creativity at its absolute finest.

✨ Rating: 10/10

Honestly, Osas might just be the ultimate Veekee James muse. The synergy between them is unreal. Every collaboration feels intentional, elevated, and unforgettable.

Theirs is truly a match made in fashion heaven 😭✨

✨ Bonus Round

Now I leave this AMVCA hall of fame fashion conversation peacefully, let me quickly add these two because they absolutely deserve honorary mentions 😭✨

These queens were part of my best-dressed list last year, and honestly? They are still more than worthy to stand among the royalty of this year’s AMVCA carpet.

Some people wear clothes. Some people wear fashion. And then there are the chosen few who wear moments 😭😂✨

The consistency, the glamour, the confidence, the understanding of personal style… absolutely elite. They may not have dominated every headline this year, but true fashion girls never really leave the conversation.

Once a red carpet queen, always a red carpet queen 👏🏽✨

Toni Tones

Toni is almost always at the top of my best-dressed list because she consistently wears the kind of fashion I personally love — wearable, classy, clean, elegant… no unnecessary drama 😭✨

And honestly, in a sea of exaggerated silhouettes and theatrical concepts, sometimes a beautifully executed clean look stands out even more.

This time, Dejavuu gave us this stunning quilted golden masterpiece and transformed Toni into what I can only describe as an elegant warrior princess 😭✨

Now let us also appreciate honesty in the fashion industry because the designer openly mentioned that the inspiration came from one of Hayden Williams’ sketches — and we absolutely love creatives who give credit where it is due 👏🏽✨

But inspiration aside, the execution? Incredible.

Who would have thought a quilted metallic look could come across this feminine, sexy, sophisticated, AND edgy all at once? The tailoring was sharp, the structure was flattering, and the gold tones photographed beautifully.

And can we talk about the styling for a second because EVERYTHING worked together perfectly — the accessories, the hair, the makeup… not one thing was fighting the other. It all came together to create a polished, memorable, and ridiculously chic final look.

No noise. No chaos. Just elegance done right 😭✨

My baby did not disappoint at all 😭🤍

🔥 Final Queen of the Night — Doyinsola

Doyinsola. Doyinsola. Doyinsola. How many times did I call you?! 😉😭✨

Girl to girl… mehn, THIS was spectacular.

The designer called it The Dragon Dress and honestly, I could not agree more because have you people ever seen a sexy dragon before? 😭😂 Well, now you have.

I present to you: the hottest dragon to ever breathe fashionable fire on an AMVCA carpet 😭✨

Everything about this look worked. The structure, the drama, the textures, the silhouette… it was bold, daring, slightly intimidating, and yet unbelievably glamorous at the same time. She genuinely looked like a goddess from some ancient fashion kingdom that survives entirely on couture and intimidation 😭😂

And can we please discuss the photography for a second because WOW. The lighting, the poses, the angles… everything came together perfectly to create this dark, powerful, almost foreboding aura around the look.

It was giving “approach me if you dare.”

The styling? Perfect. The hair? Perfect. The makeup? Perfect. The confidence? Overflowing.

Doyin, my dear, you have collected all my 10s 😭✨

🎬 And That’s a Wrap… For Now 👀

So there you have it — my personal AMVCA Hall of Fame 😭✨

Honestly, this fashion review has been serious work o 😭😂 My spirit has travelled from Lagos to Neptune and back analysing beads, corsets, metal sponges, dragons, aliens, cathedrals, and phoenixes.

But the real question now is… do you people want part two? 👀✨

Because trust me, we still have MORE top looks to discuss… and yes, the gentlemen absolutely came to slay too. Some of those men looked so good that even their agbada had confidence 😭😂

And don’t worry, next time I shall try my possible best to go straight to the point with less “turanchi” 🤭✨

Thank you for hanging out with me through this beautiful madness that is AMVCA fashion season.

Now please drop your comments, tell me your favourite looks, your controversial opinions, and whether you want the next fashion breakdown because you know I am always ready with my clipboard and imaginary judging panel 😭✨

Until next time…

Be stylish. Be fabulous. And remember — fashion is art, but confidence is the real designer 😉✨
