So Much Ado About Super Heroes…

so much ado about superheroes

I live in a house where superheroes are such a big deal.

Everywhere you turn in my house, there’s some sort of superhero figurine. Even our Grover is the caped super Grover 😁.

So what is it about these fictional, mystical, super-humans that captures our attention so much?

Superheroes have always intrigued me. However, the boys’ interest in these super-humans has added to it. Mainstream filmmakers are not helping. They are making awesome believable movies from the various superhero franchises.

The most successful for me is the Marvel Franchise. The heroes keep increasing, cinematic effects keeps getting better and their script writing has been more engrossing than their major rival, the Justice League.

Growing up, no superhero was greater than Superman. He still remains my all-time best superhero, but my boys will pick most of the Marvel heroes over him! Unbelievable right…🤔

Anyway, I can’t blame them cause like I said, the Marvel franchise has made better movies and have better lines, I mean I would not in a hundred years have thought I’ll cry at Yondu’s death in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. But cry I did! or should I say I wept 😭…they got me there, and they capped it by playing that ‘Father&Son ‘ song, what a moment!😎

And that’s how they get us hooked on these franchises also making us spend money on the merchandise cause the children are hooked too and want to dress like them, play with them and be superheroes themselves.

Superheroes roll-call

Was it  Falcon that mentioned in ‘Captain America Civil’ war that everyone has some kind of special powers now, and I think Cyborg or Aquaman also said something similar in the last Justice League movie.

From the Avengers, Justice league, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Incredibles, power rangers, they are everywhere. And under some of the franchises, there are even more! X-men, fantastic four etc

So which is your all-time favourite superhero, I like Superman, Wonder-woman, Wolverine.

Effects on children

What are the effects of watching these movies on our children? True they are mostly good guys fighting evil, sometimes they are the bullied scrawny kids who get these powers and become heroes. All positive right, but let’s not forget the violence and inappropriate words.

Whilst the positive image of a warrior is good for our children and their confidence, and role-playing is also good for their creative abilities, and problem solving skills. we should be careful with the violence.

What we do is we let the boys watch mostly the Lego franchise of these adventures (with supervision.) We watch the major movies together and talk about the morales. For the darker ones like Batman, we watch first and determine if we should let them see it, supervise the part we let them see and enjoy ourselves.

Calling all super heroes

I believe that there are more positives than negatives in children watching or playing super heroes. So bring out the toys, bring out the costumes. Calling all superheroes!

How we Met – Priya and Kiran’s arranged marriage

Priya and Kiran, how we met

Today on how we met,

Meet Priya, she tells us the lovely story of how she met her sweetheart Kiran, in her own words. Enjoy

Introduction

Hello,
Firstly I would like to thank you very much for taking the time to read this little snippet of my life.

I’m Priya and this is my story of how I met my husband Kiran (K) 13 years ago. We met through our respective families, yes you got that right, ours was an arranged marriage.
Now you may think how would you marry a stranger you know not much about, well my comeback is how do you marry someone you know everything about?? 😎🤣🤣

Here is how it goes…

I was working with my clients in the boutique this one fine day and the next minute I get a call from my Mum asking me if I’d be interested in meeting a certain family and thereafter getting married if things go as per our(that’s me and the guy) liking each other.

I was left thinking, ‘did I just hear what I heard?? Is Mum ok..?’ Random call but obviously not a very random question!😨

And so our families meet at a restaurant and me and the guy (K) get talking. But with so many family members around I was feeling a little restless which I think was obvious because this was the first ever Proposal I was looking at from the marriage point of view or any point of view for that matter.
I think K sensed my restlessness and he asked me and my family if we both could go out the next day and talk (in peace)!

Well, you know where you would find any normal girl next right?! Yes with family and my best friend, I went and met my best friend Nisha and gave her the shock of her life just as I got one 🤔😂, we hug, cry, laugh and repeat. So the night passes by talking to my younger sister of how we will manage without each other as if it was a “YES” from both the families and firstly from both me and K.

Well if it was,  then I was looking at being married off in the next 3 DAYS!😱 No no, it’s not a typo I indeed was married off in 3 DAYS! 😁

The day after…

Next morning I go to work and we meet at a decided place during lunch hour. We go to McDonald’s and sit in the open air area from where I now see my favourite places. Anyways, we get talking about our hobbies, priorities and families and all this time I had been secretly looking at my mobile phone vibrating on the chair next to me with calls/texts(which I read later and still have them) from my Sisters, and my best friend (Nisha now Shreya).

After we finish, no not talking! our burgers I meant lol 😉, we leave from there. We walk to the corner of the road, from where I could see my workplace and I then very directly ask K that he didn’t have to walk me right up to the shop as I till then hadn’t told him or anyone a Yes. And he looked very disappointed… But reluctantly turns around with a little wave and walks off. 😞

After a brief chat with my Dad, over the phone, I tell Dad that I Like K. And we can go ahead if K likes me too and if families are happy too 😚. I also confirmed to my Mum that I was happy to get hitched with K and the news spreads like fire to family and friends.🤗

Everyone is ecstatic at this super quick wedding that was about to take place in 3 days…

Everything was so quick, and it took time to sink in…
When I get back home from work, my Lil sister Raksha, has a sweet surprise planned for me. She bought a cake, flowers, a lovely pair of earrings and a congratulatory greeting card which made me realise that ”this is it”!!!!!😲
We hug each other and cry as we had no idea the previous night that it was the real last night of fun, laughter, coffee, secret chocolate eating, listening to songs till we fell asleep talking…
And then, as they say, the rest is history.

Now

We’ve now been married for 13 blissful years with three beautiful kids.

A small Note for my best half :

Dear Kiran,
“I cannot promise you an easy life, or that I will not disappoint you. I cannot promise that I will be the perfect wife. But I can promise you that I will choose to love you every day.”
Thank you for everything you do every day to make us smile and give us every happiness under the sun.
Much love
Priya 🤗😘

Mini Me Fashion

mini-me fashion

Mini-me dressing has always fascinated me. I love the whole idea of twinning with your son or daughter.

It’s a concept that some find awkward or unacceptable, but it’s actually very cool and could be stylish when done right.

It has recently gained more popularity with a lot of the top fashion houses deigning mini-me clothing and shoes. Maybe this is because quite a number of celebrities are seen these days rocking the same outfits as their children.

I have always loved matching, maybe because I did it a lot with my younger sister growing up. My boys usually wear the same outfits and when I can, I get them to wear the same outfit as their dad and thank God he indulges me. (I have a feeling he secretly enjoys it 😜)

A very chic way of rocking mini-me fashion is by wearing matching shoes. Sophia Webster is very well known for this trend, and the designer herself puts up pictures of her and her daughter rocking mini-me fashion.

Please enjoy my pick on mini-me shoes:

Sophia Webster:

Known for her delicate butterfly and angel wings design, she is a leading name in the mini-me shoe game😍.

Valentino:

Most people love the valentino studs, (garavani). I don’t think Valentino does it for kids, but there are so many copies for kids around just as there are Garavani copies.

Mini Melissa/ Vivian Westwood.

The ‘Melissa’ collection is a collaboration between Vivian Westwood and Mini Mellisa. They are very stylish and practical.

Aquazzura:

Aquazzura mini is just like their adult line ‘playful, yet elegant’ only cuter 🤩

Zaxy Shoes

A Brazilian brand, fun, vibrant and affordable

Baublesandsoles

An American brand of fun, practical shoes with interchangeable baubles, oh yes the baubles are interchangeable! How cool is that…

Mum of boys! Don’t despair, I got you 😋. Not as striking as the girls, but at least we’ve got a little something too.😊

Addidas

Jordans

Nikes

And so many others……..

Charlotte Olympia

Channel, Gucci, Toms, Timberland, Crocs etc.

They grow so fast, so now’s the time to be silly and fun, create moments that’ll last forever. You guys will look back at the pictures with fond memories. Try the mini-me trend😘

How’re you matching 🤗

Green, Glorious Green!

green glorious green

My favourite colour is green 💚. Little wonder the colour green is associated with a lot of positive things. Green represents growth, nature, money and fertility. Even the colour Green  on the traffic light means ‘Go 🚦 ‘, it signifies safety, movement and progress.

Green is a relaxing colour, it is associated with health, youth, spring, hope and life☘. Interestingly, my favourite shade of green, Emerald, is associated with wealth (money.) Now I know why I like it🤑.

Well, enough of the lesson on the green colour. Let’s talk fashion.

Green is also one of the Christmas colours, and there’s never a better time to rock green that at Christmas.  We’re fast approaching the Christmas season, so I’ve put up some interesting green finds for your viewing pleasure.

You can make them green with envy in a green statement dress. (oh yes, that’s the bad characteristic of green ‘Envy and Jealousy🤢)

1. Reem Acra   2. Reem Acra   3. Amanda Wakely

Or you can accessorize with green, it could be a green purse, bag or shoes 😉

  1. no 21. 2.Gucci 3.Alaia

  1. Dolce & Gabbana  2. Givenchy  3. Gucci    4.Nancy Gonzalez  5. Saint Laurent

And last but not the least, let’s not forget the coats, you can add a touch of green by wrapping up in a green stylish coat or blazer.

1. Ted Baker  2. Haider Ackermann

I hope you have enjoyed my pick 🤗. There are so many gorgeous green pieces out there. However, you decide to wear it, rock it well.

Look out for affordable radiant green pieces from Marks and Spencer, they usually stock lovely hues of green closer to Christmas.

How’re you greening 🤩.
