Branding Wahala

I’ve never really been a fan of loud, heavily branded products. By all means, put your logo on your work — you deserve the credit. But does it have to be splashed everywhere? Why the need to paste your brand name all over an outfit like wallpaper? 🤦🏽‍♀️

I don’t even want to walk around with my own name plastered across my clothing (except, of course, it’s a celebration aso-ebi 😉), so why would I go out wearing someone else’s name boldly stamped all over me?🤷🏽‍♀️

Too Many Logos? The Loud Branding Trend in Nigerian Fashion

There’s a growing trend in Nigerian fashion lately. You see a beautiful outfit online, something that catches your eye. You click for a closer look — and suddenly, it’s a different story. The entire piece is covered in repeated logos and brand names. What could have been classy and timeless now feels loud and overwhelming.

I understand that major international brands do this too. From luxury houses to streetwear giants, logo-mania has been a global trend for years. But interestingly, we often poke fun at people who wear head-to-toe branded outfits. We call it excessive, we say it’s doing too much. So why are we now fully embracing the same approach in our local fashion scene?

Is branding becoming more important than design? Are we creating clothes for style and expression, or just mobile billboards for brand promotion?

Personally, I believe there’s power in subtlety. A well-placed logo can speak volumes. It suggests confidence — the kind that doesn’t need to shout. When branding overwhelms the design, it can sometimes cheapen what could have been elegant.

I would gladly wear a Family and Friends’ Aso-Ebi

One Man’s Drip, Another Man’s Noise

Of course, fashion is subjective. Some people love bold logos. For them, it’s a statement of pride, affiliation, or luxury. And that’s perfectly fine. Style is personal. But for me, I prefer pieces that let the craftsmanship, fabric, and fit do the talking.

What do you think? Do you enjoy heavily branded outfits? Would you wear them confidently? Or do you also feel like it’s a bit much?

Am I overreacting… or is this branding wahala getting out of hand?

If the brand wants this much exposure, they should at least send us monthly allowance. 😜

But since they’re not, let’s choose wisely.

Team Loud? Team Low-Key? Or Team “As Long As It’s Fine”?

Whatever you choose, just remember — confidence is the real designer label.

Yours in subtle elegance (well, most days),
Aunty Lulu 😌
