The Real Housewives of Lagos (RHOLagos) is a Nigerian reality television that premiered on 8 April 2022, on Showmax. The show stars Carolyna Hutchings, Laura Ikeji, Chioma Ikokwu, Toyin Lawani-Adebayo, Iyabo Ojo, and Mariam Timmer.
The focus of the show (like the Real Housewives franchise) is on the luxury lives of Lagos socialites. The show is meant to show the glamorous lifestyle of the featured ladies – Shopping sprees, parties, travels, and of course, squabbles.
The Real Housewives of Lagos is the local version of The Real Housewives series franchise and is produced by Livespot 360. RHOL is not part of the Housewives franchise.
When I heard about the show, I thought it would be a fascinating watch even though I’m not a fan of reality tv. I guess an opportunity to see the opulent lifestyle of the Lagos upper echelon was a bit tempting. Then the cast was released and I was like, seriously, 🙄. I was thinking wealth, affluence, a lit bit of old money mixed with new money, but the cast wasn’t giving that, well take one or two.
I resigned to passing on this one. Then one day, as I was strolling quietly on the streets of Instagram, a comment about the show caught my attention. Off I went with a new mission, operation see what the show is about!
I searched, I found it and I watched it and I, I, mmmm, I liked it. I kind of enjoyed watching it and I’ll share my thoughts on the cast.
Toyin Lawani-Adebayo
If being real was a person, it’s her ☝🏾. Toyin is a popular girl, not only is she known for her artistic designs, controversies trail her. I have always respected her talent, she is extremely talented, a very artistic woman. Though her designs are not usually my cup of tea, I appreciate her creativity and craftsmanship.
Now, I did not think she was RHW material but on this particular one, she’s doing so well. She is kind of like the glue that holds the ladies together, and she does this beautifully, unapologetically Toyin.
I love that she’s being true to herself, not trying to assume a bourgie persona. She is a vibe, a full mood, too real. Loved every scene she appeared in.
Go girl, love your hustle and realness.
Chioma Ikokwu
Chioma is like the bourgie princess on the show.
She is a fashion enthusiast and a Lagos socialite who has a huge following on Instagram due to her creative reels. It’ll be quite interesting to see how she’ll blend in with the other ladies who are not in her normal social circle. So far, she has carried herself gracefully and plays the part of the spoilt but independent rich girl quite well.
I need more from her though, not more of her over the top fashion (less is more for me). I like that she supports Nigerian brands wholeheartedly and will like to see her talk more about that on the show.
I also hope we’ll peep some of her circle, it’ll be interesting to see if they’ll gel with the other cast members.
Iyabo Ojo
Someone, please tell Toyin that Aunty Iyabo does not want to be called Aunty Iyabo 😂😂😂. Dear Iyabo, even I will call you Aunty Iyabo because you act like an Aunty Iyabo 🤐.
When I saw her name on the cast list, I didn’t think she would fit in. Guess what? I was right. Iyabo (bless her) is just not for this show. She looks out of place. I like her confidence though but she just seemed like she was on the wrong show.
Aunty Iyabo, how can you say you don’t know Chioma! Seriously, you’re both Tiktok queens now, well, Chioma is the queen of reels, not Tiktok. Whilst I understand that you cater to a different audience, I find it difficult to believe you’ve never come across any of Chioma’s trending videos! If indeed you really haven’t, that proves my point – you clearly don’t belong on this series.
Iyabo has good content though, I hope she loosens up a little more. Have fun Aunty Iyabo 😉.

Carolyn, you’re gorgeous, no doubt, but people don’t cease to breathe when you walk into the room dear. I hope that’s not the only content you’re bringing cause girl, all that talk about your beauty is tiring 🥱. By the way, that construction scene was not scening at all!
You’ve got to be more convincing about your business or embrace the millionaire ex-wife enjoying life with your chest, that would make for more interesting tv. It’ll also be good to see some of the work you’re doing with the foundation.
Laura Ikeji-Kanu
Whenever I sight Laura, the song that comes to mind is ‘I’m a Hustla, I’m a I’m a Hustla by Cassidy. You’ve got to give it to this babe, she hustles. Babe is a hustler! Laura is hardworking and she makes sure to have fun whilst at it. I like her character, but I believe there’s more to her than she’s showing.
Laura, you’re more fun and genuine than you’re letting on or is that the script that was written for you? Loosen up and have fun girl. You’ve got great content, then there’s your family, people will like to peep your sisters, Kanu family etc. Bring it on girl.
Oh, Laura, if you didn’t know Chioma was going to be at that party, then she’s not your friend, okay. It’s okay to define relationships, there are friends, colleagues, acquaintances etc. Not everyone you know is a friend. Ciao 😘.
Affluence, ritz, glamour, high-class, lavish, posh, elitist – these are some of the words that are synonymous with the Real Housewives brand. The franchise has always given people a peek into the luxurious world of the upper echelon of society.
Is this the case with the Real Housewives of Lagos? Certainly not the cast I expected, and definitely not screaming luxury.
However, the first episode was not a bad distraction. Apparently, there’s a 6th lady we’re yet to meet. Hope she’ll bring some good vibes when she shows up, some country club good vibes please 😉.
The makers of the show have chosen the cast smartly, they’ll get the attention of every stratum of the society as all these ladies have huge followings on social media, they’re all influencers in their own way albeit to different crowds.
