Fashion and a Funeral - Style from a funeral reception

I didn’t know what title to give this post. This is because funerals are meant to be private and solemn. However, most tribes in Africa see funerals as a celebration of the deceased life, more so if the departed lived above 70, then the drums will roll.

Now when there’s a lot of fashion involved, I can’t look away 😁. I’ll show you guys why.

Lagos Stands up for Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy is a well-known record producer in Nigeria. He is the founder of Mavin Records, a record company that has churned up a lot of Nigerian music stars including Tiwa Savage, Reakado Banks, Dr Sid and Korede Bello. Prior to Mavin, DonJazzy had co-owned a record companyknown as Mo’ hits. It was Mo-hits that started making Nigerian music more attractive to Nigerian millennials.

Mohits also started flirting with the international music industry. We can say that the international success Nigrrian artustes are enjoying now started with Mo’hits. The group had dynamic artists like Dbanj, Wande Coal, Ikechukwu, Dr Sid, D prince etc.

Don Jazzy has become one of Nigeria’s biggest music producers. With the kind of longevity he has had in the entertainment industry, it was no surprise that his mum’s funeral reception was attended by many. If you were not at Don Jazzy’s mum’s burial, you better check your celebrity status! Just kidding 😜.

Aso-ebi fashion.

As is the norm with most Nigerian parties, a uniform fabric was worn by family and friends in solidarity with the family of the deceased.

Let’s see what styles they came up with.

We’ll start with one of the best dressed guests at the reception, Big brother Alumna, Esther Agunbiade.

Esther’s outfit is absolutely stunning. I can’t help but wonder how mchan enjoy herself in it, like can she eat, she dance and enjoy herself 🤔. I guess the pleasure is being the cynosure of all eyes. She lks ing.

Amy’s style is also really nice but it has too much going on. Too many add-ons never work for me. She looks nice though, and her gele is also cute, but I wish there was no hair in sight.

Diiadem was out to slay and slay she did in this Emagine by Bukola piece. The fabric was totally transformed.

The same designer worked magic on Ariyike’s outfit. Both ladies are definitely favorites. Make-up, hairstyle everything works. Can you believe this is Omowon from Anikulapo 😁. She cleans up really well.

P.S.

Are we sure our beautiful ladies saw ‘funeral’ reception on their invites? Because, mehn 🔥

We have here two slayers slaying as usual. Osas looks stunning in this Aficcana piece.

The creativity that went into Toke’s outfit is amazing. Really lovely look from both ladies.

Here comes our radio girls Toolz and Gbemi O. Toolz and Gbemi have been on a fitness journey and it’s showing. Both ladies look amazing.

Gbemi’s outfit is a bit too madamish for me though, I think it’s the sleeves! Very boring sleeves. She looks good though, and appropriately dressed (not judging just observing 🤷🏾‍♀️.

I like when ladies step out of the box. Omawonder looks comfortable and stylish in her outfit. Freedom to eat all you can 😍.

Kaylah’s look is also refreshing. Really classy look.

These 2 Big brother alumni understood the assignment. They are decently clad but still very stylish.

I don’t like Erica’s hairstyle though! I’m sure you guys know I don’t like this style 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Really lovely looks from Amarachi and Wofai. No complaints here 💜.

Oh Lilian, always trying too hard 🤦🏾‍♀️. Sometimes less is more, especially for tall women like Lilian. The designer should have gone for simpler sleeves or even no sleeves at all. The bodice is lovely though, but those sleeves… 😤

Maria looks chic in her outfit. 💜

These two socialites look the part. A really stunning look from Kehinde 💓.

Cynthia also looks gorgeous. Lovely ladies.

Next we have another set of media girls representing in style. We approve of this demure look from Mimi 💜

Moet went for sexy! The outfit looks good on her as does her hair and make-up.

Really lovely looking ladies. Doyin and Frances both look stylish in their outfits. I love how Frances’ designer played with green.

Destiny looks like a Barbie doll 😁. All that’s left is for us to put her in a box and ship her off to a little girl somewhere in the world. I think Nimie also looks like a doll 😁, what do you guys think?

Lovely ladies.

Warri Pikin the funny lady 😊. Love her but not this style. This is a serious mummy style, yes I know she’s a mummy but ehn 🤔. Her hair and make-up looks really nice though, beautiful lady.

Lily looks really nice in her outfit. I love it 💜.

Sighs! 🤦🏾‍♀️

I don’t know where to start with Ogechi’s style, with all the fabric this designer used she could not cover the mammary glands a little more 🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️.

Stitches by Andra please do better next time, we are not understanding this outfit!

It’s the sleeves again, I’m not getting all these puffy mummy sleeves! Biodun’s outfit is somehow not giving what it should be giving. The skirt should also be an inch or two longer (some people don’t like their skirts too long though.) The look is missing something🤔.

Doris’ style is another proof that less is more, what are those two purple buds shooting out of her chest? That just spoilt what could have been a really nice outfit.

Diana also went for the sultry look. She looks nice.

Tania and Damilola are giving us similar looks. Their outfits are nice but I’m not feeling the bell hands. I think both outfits would have been nicer without the bells. What do you think?

Classy-looking ladies.

Let’s finish off with these two beauties. I love these two styles, simple and classy.

The interesting part is that most of this outfits will never be worn again, Oh fashion!

Thanks for reading.
