Deki, 4 years have flown by without you. We still hurt, it’s still painful, still fresh but still we rise. We remember you all the time, we carry you in our hearts so you’re always with us.

How’s mum? You two taking care of each other? I like to believe you are, I imagine both of you watching us, happy when we’re happy, wishing to hug us and tell us how everything will be fine when we despair, well, I can only imagine.

I think about 23 Abdul Razaq Road alot. The home of our youth, a house of prayer, a house of laughter the house that safeguards all our memories and what memories they are! There was never a dull moment, and you where in the heart of most of our adventures.

It was a lively household most of the time, us and our cousins during school term. It was always fun, everything was turned to fun and games, from who got the front seat/door seats to who cleans up after meals. Yosi, Sege and I were usually just observers and witnesses, we were the youngest and couldn’t lay claims to anything except mum intervened. 😊

The games – Country game, Animal-Place-Thing, Ludo, Jackpot, go-fishing! We even used to have our own inter-house sports, my favourite was filling the bottle. You won all the races, you really could move, a sprinter, 100m was your thing.

Our own Ms USA

We enjoyed watching Ms World beauty pageant and as a result, you would often organise our own Ms World. Moze was always Ms Philippines (cause she said they were usually the prettiest) and you were always Ms USA, Toyosi and I had no choice but to let you two have your wish (bullies 😛). We would have swim wear and evening wear parade and then the talent show. Singing Whitney Houston’s ‘Greatest Love’ was always in the mix for talent show, Toyosi and I would pray to get called first so we get to sing it before anyone else, those where Good days.

We loved watching movies, lucky we had a video club on our property so we were always up to date. Then there was Music, you loved music! Micheal Bolton was always on replay, as was Bryan Adams – every one in that house could sing ‘said I loved you 😄.

How can I forget going to buy CDs at mega plaza when we traveled to Lagos. You always wanted original CDs, and I would use my small money then to buy CDs for 2k 🙆🏾‍♀️ (money Don finish) but I was always happy to flex with my original CDs 😎.

Remember how you played Brandy’s CD back to back, we were all sick of hearing ‘the boy is mine’ but you were the driver so we would usually just tag along and not complain 😁.

Meat pies, only the best please.

You loved meat-pies. Remember how we always knew where to get the best meat-pies in town, thanks to you. First it was at Exclusive Restaurant, then Friends fast foods and there were others I can’t even remember. You always found the best one and we knew when it would come out of the oven, nothing like freshly baked pies. Ilorin days 😁.

We also used to get meat pies from Bekadims. We all learnt to swim there, we would go for a swim and then hot meat pie and cold sprite afterwards (sorry for who no get money on such days, na to become beggy beggy 😂). I was on that table a couple of times, good old days!

Oduduwa Street

We moved the fun to Lagos, Kenzo was already there and so our family fun continued. Bank Olemoh designer Rice, Ghana High rice, Amala shitta, queuing early to braid at twins, oh, how can I forget Mrs. Dasilva’s cake. Surulere days were super fun days and the fun shifted to Magodo… Gosh, growing up with you guys was magical.

Even on days we didn’t get along, we will stick together, remember Magodo days when it was just me and you, boy, I miss those days 💔. I really miss you Deki, there’s so much to say, (the trips 🤗) but I’ll stop here.

You were fearless, a go-getter. It feels like you were in a hurry to try so much, achieve so much, experience so much because you knew you had limited time. You lived, my Deki baby, no matter the circumstances, you always made sure you enjoyed yourself. I’m happy you did that, I’m really happy you did.

P.S Your baby is fine, he is enveloped in love and we see a lot of you in him. God’s got him and so have we.

Love you egbon mi. Thanks for the Good times, you are forever loved, forever cherished, gone but not forgotten.

Lulu
